The Rocket French Course

Learning a second language is one of the most rewarding challenges you can undertake. Learning the native tongue of the countries you travel to adds wonders to an already thrilling experience.

You can find so many French courses that claim to teach the language. How do you know which ones stack up, and which ones fall short?  We did this review in an effort to share our experience with Rocket French for anybody who wants to learn to speak French.

The program we have reviewed is Rocket French™ which  is produced by a company named Rocket Language Ltd. This course was written by Marie-Claire Rivière who is a native Frenchman.

The company has an outstanding reputation for producing high quality language learning courses which include French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese and Chinese, Arabic, and American Sign Language.

The first module of Rocket French has 31 audio tracks that will have you speaking some basic words after your first lesson.

The course teaches you conversational French which means you'll be able to converse with native French speakers, as well as, speaking with the locals, asking for directions, ordering in restaurants etc.

The Rocket French package includes the actual transcripts of the audios and we found them particularly helpful in following along. Each audio lesson is about 20 minutes long, so the full module is about 11 hours of content.

The methods used in the course let you to absorb and quickly speak modern French. Eleven hours seems like a lot I know, but with the use of the audio tracks the time goes by very quickly and effortlessly.

The Rocket French program also includes software that makes learning very easy, and more importantly, fun. The first software application is what they call MegaVocab
™.

This software contains a vocabulary recognition tool, which we found extremely helpful in the beginning of our studies.

You basically run through a series of words and you learn the words through repetition, and an association with a picture. It's similar to the flashcards you used when you were a kid.

The software has 1000 words and pictures built into it, but it allows you to add more words and pictures of your choice as you advance through the course.

Once we started to learn the vocabulary we moved on to the MegaAudio™ software. This phase of the course is where we started to feel confident we were on the right track.

The software provides exercises to test and improve your recognition of the spoken words. The system provides a score with each exercise so you always have a unit of measure for your progress.

We found this software to be a lot of fun to use. It's one thing to learn the vocabulary, but to understand it when spoken, is another.

In our opinion this is where other programs fall short, and where Rocket French excels.

Another very important part of the Rocket French™ program is that it isn't just an introductory course. The course is designed with the assumption you have no background in the language when starting. But it continues to an advanced level as well.

We felt this increased the value of the program because we wouldn't have to go out and buy a more advanced course as I progressed.

Possibly the most impressive part of this course is the members only forum where you can ask questions and communicate with other students and the Rocket Language online instructors.

To us, this forum made the cost of this course a real bargain. If you happen to get stuck on something, you find lots of help in the forum.

Our closing comment involves the pricing of this course. We wanted to get started straight away so we were delighted to find they offered a download option which means they don't have to ship out CD's, software and printed material.

They offer a two hundred dollar discount if you choose the download option (which is what I did). I was then able to listen on my computer, burn the material to a CD, and even load audio onto my ipod. By purchasing the downloaded course I was able to save myself two hundred dollars and I picked the course up for just under $100.

To top it all off, the folks at Rocket offer the course with a 60 day guarantee with no questions asked. When you consider the quality of the material presented, the software, the forum participation, the guarantee, and the bargain price, we can only give the Rocket French™ program my highest rating of 5 stars.

We hope you found this Rocket French review helpful - and if you want to learn a second language, we think you will have a real hard time beating the quality of the Rocket French program.

Good luck with your new challenge!
